Workshop Health and Safety

We take studio safety very seriously. The risks associated with participating in a ceramics workshop include:

  • Risk to lungs from ceramic dust - work area is kept clean before, during and after activity, to avoid inhalation, using wet cloths.

  • Risks from slips and trips - please report any spillages to workshop facilitator and store items in designated area to avoid trips.

  • Cuts - be careful when using sharp tools.

  • Electrical hazards - electric wheels are PAT tested annually, avoid over use of water when throwing on the wheel.

To address these risks we require every workshop participant to complete a health and safety induction before you start working.

Each participant must comply with all health and safety instructions given by staff at all times.

Participants attend the workshop and use the equipment at their own risk with awareness of the inherent hazards of a workshop environment, which include but are not limited to use of sharp tools and sharp edges, the dangers of using materials and the risks associated with breathing silica dust.

In the interests of safety and hygiene, no crockery, glass or food are permitted in the workshop space.

In the event of a fire, participants are asked to make their way to the nearest available fire exit.

Smoking is forbidden in the workshop.

Due to the numerous risks associated with a workshop, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied at all times by an adult when attending a event.
